Seawolves tame Lions for AT&T title, 88-68

ANCHORAGE – Freshman point guard Kiki Robertson delivered 20 points, eight assists and seven steals Saturday to lead the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to an 88-68 victory over previously unbeaten Saint Leo in the title game of the AT&T Hoops Classic.

The Seawolves (9-1) also got 14 points, five assists, five rebounds and five steals from tournament Most Outstanding Player Alli Madison as they improved to 5-0 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex this year.

The Lions (10-1) – who were off to the best start in program history – got 19 points and six rebounds from guard Teresa Manigrasso, but UAA forced the Sunshine State Conference club into 29 turnovers and just 32 percent shooting.

UAA, which also entered the game perfect against D-II competition, never trailed in Saturday's showdown. The Seawolves built a 17-7 lead before Saint Leo came back to tie it 31-31 on a pair of free throws by Manigrasso. UAA answered with a 7-0 run, getting a three-pointer from all-tourney selection Kylie Burns and four straight points from junior forward KeKe Wright, to take a 40-35 lead into halftime.

Robertson then took over after the break, accounting for 17 points with scoring and assists during UAA's 23-6 run to open the half. The Seawolves forged their largest lead at 81-56 on two Burns free throws with 6:15 remaining.

Wright finished with 15 points (5-6 FG, 5-6 FT), seven rebounds and two blocks, while sophomore Jessica Madison accounted for 12 points and four rebounds, helping UAA to a 47-21 advantage in bench scoring.

Meanwhile, Robertson added seven rebounds and tied her career high for the third time with the seven steals. The Honolulu native shot 8 of 14 from the field, including 2 of 5 from three-point range.

UAA returns to Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Jan. 2 when it travels to Nampa, Idaho, to face nationally ranked Northwest Nazarene.

NOTES: The Seawolves improved to 11-0 all-time in the fifth annual Classic, earning every win by double figures … Saturday's game was the first-ever women's basketball meeting between UAA and Saint Leo … with her 79th victory in a Seawolf uniform, Burns is now tied for No. 5 all-time at UAA, joining Robin Graul (1985-89) and Diane Dobrich (1986-90) on that list.
