JC All-American Dent joins UAA women

ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team filled a major role Friday as head coach Ryan McCarthy announced that junior-college All-American Adriana Dent has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seawolves.

Dent, a 5-8 guard from Canyon Country, Calif., played the last two seasons at JC power College of Southern Idaho, leaving two years of eligibility at UAA. As a sophomore in 2012-13, she averaged 7.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.3 steals for a CSI squad that finished 21-12 and swept the Scenic West Athletic Conference and NJCAA Region 18 titles.

She was named the MVP of the Region 18 Tournament with 16 points and four assists in the title-game victory over North Idaho, and she tallied 19 points and 16 rebounds in CSI's national tourney loss to Chipola (Fla.).

“We are extremely excited to bring a high-caliber talent like Adriana into our program,” McCarthy said. “It's easy to see the impressive offensive numbers and the fact that she's an All-American, but that does not do justice to the defensive effort that she brings to the court. Her former coaches describe her as tenacious, and I think Seawolf fans will really enjoy watching her the next two years.”

At Canyon High School, Dent was both the 2010-11 Foothill League and All-Santa Clarita Valley player-of-the-year, plus an All-CIF Southern Section IIAA selection. As a senior, she averaged 13.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.1 steals to lead the Cowboys to a 27-6 record and their second straight Foothill League title.

Dent brings the Seawolves' 2013-14 recruiting class to three, joining fall signees Alysha Devine (6-0, F, Wasilla/Wasilla HS) and Kiki Robertson (5-5, G, Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute).
