SEATTLE – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team fell 81-74 to Seattle Pacific here Saturday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at Royal Brougham Pavilion. UAA slipped to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in GNAC play while the Falcons improved to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in league action.
The Seawolves had four players finish in double figures, led by Teancum Stafford with 18 points. Kyle Fossman added 17 while Travis Thompson and Brian McGill had 13 apiece.
David Downs led SPU with a game-high 21 points, going 12-for-14 from the free throw line. Mitch Penner added 17 and Patrick Simon 13 for the hosts.
Trailing by as many as 14, UAA chipped away in the second half and pulled to within four points at 65-51 on a Thompson layup with 3:54 remaining. But the Falcons were able to close the deal, going 13-for-16 from the line down the stretch.
The Seawolves committed just six turnovers on the night, but were just 6-for-22 from three-point land (30 percent) and wound up shooting 41 percent from the field overall.
UAA will return to Anchorage next week to host Northwest Nazarene on Thursday (Jan. 16) and Central Washington on Saturday (Jan. 18). Both games will tipoff at 7 p.m.
