Devine powers Seawolves to blowout of Boxers

ANCHORAGE – Sophomore forward Alysha Devine scored a career-high 19 points Saturday to lead nationally 3rd-ranked Alaska Anchorage to an 85-39 blowout of Pacific (Ore.) in the final game of the Seawolf Hoops Classic women's basketball tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (11-0) also got 14 points from tournament Most Outstanding Player Jenna Buchanan, plus 11 points and three steals from all-tourney selection Leah Bonner.

The Boxers (4-5) – an NCAA Div. III program from Forest Grove, Ore. – were led by nine points and eight rebounds from all-tourney honoree Olivia Cook, but the visitors were forced into 31 turnovers and outscored 56-12 by the UAA bench.

Pacific hung tough at the outset, trailing only 13-11 midway through the first half before the Seawolves went on a 19-4 run over the next five minutes. UAA built a 45-21 lead at the break and pushed its advantage as high as 48 points late in the game.

UAA shot 50 percent (33 of 66) from the floor for the second time this year, with Devine and Buchanan each tallying 6-of-10 accuracy. Bonner shot 5 of 7, while sophomore point guard Kiki Robertson – another all-tourney pick – shot 4 of 6 and finished with nine points.

Devine, who had missed seven of the first nine games with a back injury, broke her previous career-high of 17, set in her first collegiate game at BYU-Hawaii last season. The former Wasilla High star was 5 of 6 from the charity stripe and pulled down seven of her eight rebounds on the offensive end.

Senior forward KeKe Wright had seven points, seven rebounds and two blocks for UAA as the hosts got at least three points from all 11 players.

UAA's 11-0 start now stands alone as the second-best in program history, trailing only the 12-0 mark of the 2006-07 team. The Seawolves will try to tie that record Sunday when they host a critical NCAA Div. II West Region showdown against Pacific West Conference leader Hawaii Pacific (8-1) at 5 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center.
