#3 UAA passes Simon Fraser's test, 86-66

ANCHORAGE – Senior forward KeKe Wright produced a career-high 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Saturday to power nationally 3rd-ranked Alaska Anchorage to an 86-66 women's basketball victory over Simon Fraser at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (18-1, 8-1 GNAC) also got 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting from junior center Megan Mullings as they won for the sixth straight time and reached the midpoint of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference campaign atop the standings.

The Clan (10-7, 6-3) was led by 18 points, six rebounds and four assists from GNAC Preseason Player-of-the-Year Erin Chambers but were outrebounded 55-33 in their first trip to UAA's new arena.

Despite taking a 34-19 lead with 7 minutes left in the first half, the Seawolves were tested when the Canadian club got hot from outside, slicing the halftime score to 48-40 with a barrage of five three-pointers.

Simon Fraser scored the first basket of the second half and was within 51-43 at the 16:10 mark when Mullings went to the bench with her fourth foul. But Wright, a former JC All-American at Gillette (Wyo.) College, took control with a series of strong post moves and a dominating rebounding performance, snagging 10 of UAA's 28 offensive boards. Wright shot 9 of 12 from the field and 8 of 11 from the free throw line to produce the Seawolves' highest offensive output of the year.

Wright sparked the clinching spurt with a layup at the 10:29 mark that increased the lead to 63-50, quickly followed by consecutive three-pointers from Jenna Buchanan and Jessica Madison. SFU would get no closer than 80-66 with 2:55 to play.

Sophomore point guard Kiki Robertson finished with six points, seven rebounds and seven assists despite a tough shooting night, while reserve guard Adriana Dent had four assists, no turnovers and five steals. Buchanan added six points, nine rebounds and a career-high six assists off the bench as well.

The Seawolves return to the road next week when they face Central Washington on Jan. 29 (6 p.m. AST) and try to avenge their lone loss at Northwest Nazarene on Jan. 31 (3:15 p.m. AST).
