Wright, Robertson pace #3 UAA past CWU, 80-57

ANCHORAGE – Senior forward KeKe Wright scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday as No. 3 Alaska Anchorage pulled away for an 80-57 women's basketball victory over Central Washington at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (13-1, 3-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 15 points, three assists and three steals from sophomore point guard Kiki Robertson, who returned to the lineup from a one-game absence due to a concussion.

The Wildcats (7-5, 2-2) got 15 points from forward Courtney Johnson but the visitors from Ellensburg were outrebounded 43-31 and forced into 29 turnovers.

UAA – which suffered its first loss of the season Thursday against Northwest Nazarene – trailed 5-1 in the first two minutes against Central Washington before taking control. Making her first career appearance off the bench, Robertson sparked a 24-2 run over the next six minutes, capping the surge with an assist on Alli Madison's fast-break layup at the 12:22 mark.

The Seawolves led 43-28 at halftime and clung to the same spread with 14:29 remaining before slamming the door with a 15-0 run. Redshirt freshman forward Sierra Afoa provided the exclamation mark with a three-point play that made it 68-38 with 9:58 on the clock.

Afoa, from Anchorage's Dimond High School, finished with nine rebounds and was one of nine Seawolves to tally at least five points.

Wright did her damage by converting six offensive rebounds into 8-of-11 field-goal accuracy, along with a pair of blocked shots. Meanwhile, Robertson shot 6 of 7 from the field (2 of 2 on three-pointers) in just 18 minutes of action.

Junior guard Jenna Buchanan added eight points, four rebounds and three assists, while Alli Madison, Megan Mullings and Jessica Madison had seven points apiece for UAA, which earned its first conference victory in its brand-new arena.

The Seawolves return to the road next week for GNAC games at Western Oregon (Thur., Jan. 8) and Saint Martin's (Sat., Jan. 10). Both contests tip at 4:15 p.m. AST.
