LACEY, Wash. – Senior Katelynn Zanders has 12 kills and 12 digs to lead a balanced attack as No. 11 Alaska Anchorage earned a 25-9, 25-16, 25-21 volleyball victory over Saint Martin's at Marcus Pavilion on Friday night.
The Seawolves (19-2, 11-2 GNAC) also got eight kills, 11 digs, four blocks and three aces from freshman outside hitter Leah Swiss as they extended their program-best win streak to 16 against Saint Martin's, including a current string of seven straight sweeps.
The Saints (2-17, 1-12) got nine kills and seven digs from Rebecca Mitchell, but the visitors controlled the action from start to finish with a .326 to .078 edge in attack percentage.
UAA – which moved back into a four-way tie for first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference – jumped out to quick leads in the first two sets, including three consecutive aces by Swiss to make it 4-0 early in the second. The Seawolves found themselves in a 12-12 battle in the third set before pulling away late on the strength of Zanders's 10th double-double this year.
Senior right-side hitter Julia Mackey blasted nine kills on .533 hitting, and senior middle blocker Caitlin Hanson had eight kills and three blocks to supplement the offense, while junior setter Morgan Hooe finished with 23 assists, three kills and three blocks. Hooe was spelled by reserve setter Kristi Farley in the second and third frames, with the sophomore picking up 12 digs and a pair of aces.
The Seawolves have a quick turnaround for their next match, heading up I-5 tonight for a battle with longtime rival Seattle Pacific. That match starts Saturday at 6 p.m. ADT from Brougham Pavilion.
