Falcons shut out Seawolves, 2-0

ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves split a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series with the visiting No. 12-ranked Bowling Green Falcons, following the Falcons 2-0 win Sunday afternoon at the Sullivan Arena.

The Seawolves (5-2-1, 2-1-1 WCHA) were handed just their second loss of the season and first in league play after defeating the Falcons (4-2-1, 1-1-0 WCHA) 4-2 on Saturday. UAA was shut out for the first time of the season, while remaining tied for third in the league standings with five points.

Scoring for the Falcons in the first period was Tyler Spezia at 4:29, giving BGSU a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. The Falcons then picked up their first power-play strike of the season, as Kevin Dufour bested UAA netminder Olivier Mantha at 10:28 of the second – BGSU's first man-advantage goal in 20 attempts.

The Seawolves pulled Mantha with 1:21 left in the game for the extra attacker but couldn't break Chris Nell (2-1-1), who made 25 saves with the win. Mantha (4-2-1) turned aside 20 shots.

The Seawolves will have the next weekend off to prepare for a conference series against the Ferris State Bulldogs, Nov. 13-14 and a non-conference pair against Penn State, Nov. 20-21.
