#7 UAA races to 122-52 rout of Red Storm

ANCHORAGE – Senior Megan Mullings scored 22 points to pace seven Alaska Anchorage players in double figures as the No. 7-ranked Seawolves ran away for a 122-52 women's basketball rout of Dixie State on Friday night.

UAA (6-0) also got 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists from senior guard Keiahnna Engel, plus 12 points and nine assists from junior point guard Kiki Robertson in the first-ever game played in the Alaska Airlines Center's auxiliary gymnasium.

Freshman center Hannah Wandersee tallied 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting as the Seawolves set a program record for the most points against a fellow NCAA Div. II team. The 70-point margin of victory was the second-best against a D-II foe, and UAA's 34 assists tied its D-II record and fell just one shy of tying the overall program mark.

Dixie State (0-1), from St. George, Utah, was led by nine points off the bench from guard Tramina Jordan, but the Pacific West Conference club was outshot 53 percent (44 of 83) to 27 percent (16 of 59) and outrebounded 59-29.

Utilizing its full-court press, the Seawolves scored the game's first nine points and never looked back, racing to a 31-16 lead after one quarter and a 60-28 advantage at halftime.

Mullings shot 9 of 13 from the floor and added seven rebounds and three blocks as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Preseason Player of the Year was joined in double-figures by senior guard Jenna Buchanan (13 pts, 3-8 3FG, 4 assists), senior guard Jessica Madison (13 pts) and freshman guard Tara Thompson (10 pts).

Senior point guard Christina Davis dished eight assists and made a game-high four steals, while fellow senior Adriana Dent had seven points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Junior Alysha Devine grabbed nine rebounds as the Seawolves finished with 29 offensive caroms.

UAA is back in on the same court Saturday for a 5 p.m. tip against Stanislaus State (1-0).

NOTES: The margin of victory was the 10th-highest in program history (dating to 1977-78) and trailed a 105-30 road win over Chaminade on Dec. 17, 2010 for the most lopsided against a D-II opponent … the most points previous against a D-II opponent was 120 against then-Div. II program Air Force in the 1988-89 season … UAA's 34 assists tied the D-II mark set against Western Oregon on Jan. 9, 2014 and came one shy of tying the overall record of 35 against LSU-Shreveport on Jan. 12, 1996 … this weekend's games are being played in the auxiliary gymnasium due to the ASAA 3A/4A State Volleyball championships being held in the Alaska Airlines Center's main arena.
