ANCHORAGE – The visiting Penn State Nittany Lions dispatched the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, 5-2 in a non-conference contest at the Sullivan Arena on Friday evening. With the loss, UAA falls to 3-2-0 in non-league games.
The Seawolves (6-4-1) and the Nittany Lions (7-2-2) were meeting for just the second time and first in Anchorage. PSU now leads the all-time series record, 1-0-1. The teams met last October, tying 3-3 in the Brice Alaska Goal Rush.
The game started with back-to- back goals by the Nittany Lions' Andrew Sturtz, just 1:31 minutes apart in the first period at 8:01 and 9:30. UAA battled back and knotted the game 2-2 with two of its own at 12:08 and 12:37 – just 29 seconds apart.
Scoring for the Seawolves were junior forward Dylan Hubbs and freshman forward Nicolas Erb-Ekholm. Hubbs, who was injured earlier in the first, netted his third on the season, while Erb-Ekholm picked up the first of his career. Assisting on the plays were freshman Mason Mitchell and sophomore Tad Kozun and Jarrett Brown.
PSU then added two more tallies in the second and the final dagger in the third.
The teams unite tomorrow at 7:07 p.m. at the Sullivan Arena as the Seawolves close non-conference play for the season.
