Ramblers amble past Toreros, 67-57

ANCHORAGE – Forward Devon Turk scored 25 points and Loyola Chicago used a hot-shooting second half to earn a 67-57 victory over San Diego in the opening round of the GCI Great Alaska Shootout at the Alaska Airlines Center on Wednesday night.

The Ramblers (4-1) also got 13 points, six assists and no turnovers from point guard Earl Peterson as they erased a 28-25 halftime deficit by shooting 60 percent (15 of 25) after the break.

The Toreros (0-4) were led by 20 points and eight rebounds from guard Duda Sanadze, but the West Coast Conference club shot just 36.8 percent, including 6 of 19 on three-pointers.

Loyola also got a double-figure effort from guard Milton Doyle, who had 11 points, five assists and three blocked shots in his program's first-ever GCI Shootout appearance. With the victory, the Ramblers will play Toledo in the tournament semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

San Diego – the runner-up in the 2009 GCI Shootout – falls into Friday's noon consolation semifinal against intrastate rival San Jose State.
