WKU fends off UAA for women's Shootout title

ANCHORAGE – Forward Ivy Brown recorded 21 points and 14 rebounds Wednesday to help Western Kentucky overcome Alaska Anchorage 62-58 in the title game of the women's GCI Great Alaska Shootout at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Lady Toppers (3-1) – who finished third in their two previous Shootout appearances – also got 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists from tournament Most Outstanding Player Kendall Noble.

The Seawolves were led by 15 points and nine rebounds by all-tourney selection Megan Mullings, plus 12 points and five assists from fellow senior Jenna Buchanan. With and 11-0 record and a No. 5 ranking in the WBCA Div. II Coaches' Top 25 poll, the Seawolves were able to play the game as an exhibition under the NCAA's 'discretionary exemption' rule.

The loss marked UAA's fourth straight in the Shootout title game, while WKU captured the championship gold pan for the first time.
