Spartans surge past Toreros, 76-67

ANCHORAGE – Forward Frank Rogers had 18 points and 14 rebounds Friday to help San Jose State pull away late for a 76-67 victory over San Diego in the GCI Great Alaska Shootout consolation semifinals at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Spartans (2-3) also got 15 points and four assists from reserve guard Isaac Thornton as they equaled their victory total from last season.

The Toreros (0-5) were led by 21 points from wing Duda Sanadze, while forward Brett Bailey had 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

With the win, San Jose State moves into Saturday's 4th/6th-place game against the winner of Drexel-Alaska Anchorage, while San Diego will play the loser of that game for 7th place at noon.
