Men double up Red Lions in home opener, 94-47

ANCHORAGE – Junior guard Suki Wiggs had 21 points and 10 rebounds Friday as the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team used a balanced scoring effort to defeat Lincoln Christian 94-47 in its home season opener at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (2-2) also got 15 points from senior forward Christian Leckband, who helped the hosts to a 48-17 edge in bench scoring.

The Red Lions (1-1) – a National Christian College Athletic Association team from Lincoln, Ill. – were led by nine points and six rebounds from forward Ramon Suero.

UAA scored the first eight points and never looked back, building a 21-4 lead after eight minutes and taking a 48-19 advantage into halftime. The Seawolves shot 61.3 percent (38 of 62) from the field, including 11 of 26 (.423) on three-pointers, while dishing an impressive 33 assists.

Wiggs shot 9 of 12 from the field – including a perfect 8 of 8 inside the arc – to record his second double-double in as many games. The University of Idaho transfer added four assists and three steals Friday, and has now scored 20-plus points in his first four games as a Seawolf.

Junior guard Drew Peterson scored 12 points (4-7 3FG) and dished three assists without a turnover, while junior forward Tayler Thompson (5-6 FG) and junior wing Spencer Svejcar added 10 points apiece.

Junior guard Diante Mitchell scored all eight of his points in the first half and wound up with nine assists – the most for a Seawolf on the young season.

UAA will play a rematch with the Red Lions on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center.
