Seawolves roll past Red Lions, 105-50

ANCHORAGE – Junior guard Diante Mitchell had 27 points, four assists and five steals Saturday to pace Alaska Anchorage to a 105-50 victory over Lincoln Christian in men's basketball action at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (3-2) also got 22 points, six rebounds and five assists from junior guard Suki Wiggs as they improved to 10-0 all-time against the visitors from Lincoln, Illinois.

The Red Lions (1-2), of the National Christian College Athletic Association, were led by 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting from freshman guard Zach Thompson.

Wiggs made a pair of three-pointers to start a game-opening 12-3 surge for the Seawolves, but Lincoln Christian battled back for a 19-19 tie on Thompson's short jumper at the 10:14 mark. From there, UAA took control as Mitchell made four straight free throws and fed Wiggs for a layup, sparking a 24-0 blitz over the next nine minutes.

The Seawolves scored the first six points after halftime to make it a 34-2 run, and they continued to stretch the lead until the final buzzer.

Mitchell shot 8 of 11 from the floor, including 5 of 7 on three-pointers, and made all six of his free throws, while Wiggs shot 9 of 14 (4-6 3FG) and added three steals. A transfer from Div. I Idaho, Wiggs extended his program record by scoring at least 20 points in his first five games in Green & Gold.

Senior forward Christian Leckband added 16 points and seven rebounds, junior forward Corey Hammell had 15 points and eight rebounds, and junior wing Spencer Svejcar had 12 points and five assists as UAA shot 58.1 percent (38 of 62) overall and 56 percent (14 of 25) from long range.

UAA won the rebounding battle 43-15 to equal the second-fewest rebounds allowed in program history, while the 55-point margin of victory was the 13th-largest for any Seawolf club.

The Seawolves return to action Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14 when they travel to Fairbanks for important West Region neutral-court matchups against Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific.
