ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves dropped its fifth straight game with a 5-1 loss to the visiting No. 5-ranked Michigan Tech Huskies in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game Friday after a month-long absence from the Sullivan Arena.

The Seawolves, who remain in last place in the WCHA with a 4-15-2 slate, drop to 7-16-4 overall, while the Huskies (23-7-1) are still in contention for the McNaughton Cup with an 18-4-1 league mark following the win. UAA is three points out of eighth place with Lake Superior State and Alabama Huntsville.

After allowing the Huskies to take a 5-0 lead at the halfway mark of the game, the Seawolves lone strike came at 4:54 of the third period, ending the shutout. Scoring his fifth goal of the season was junior forward Blake Tatchell after freshman Austin Azurdia fed him from behind the net. Junior Austin Sevalrud picked up the second helper on the goal.

The game started with back-to-back power-play goals by Malcolm Gould (12:43) and Shane Hanna (14:13) in the opening stanza. The second period saw tallies from Mike Neville (5:41) and Tyler Heinonen (7:55) causing bench boss Matt Thomas to trade out freshman goaltender Olivier Mantha for classmate Jared D'Amico.

MTU then added its final dagger at 12:32 of the second with Hanna's second of the night.

The Seawolves were outshot, 31-23, but led in the second, 10-5, and in the third, 11-8. Mantha was credited with 17 saves in the loss, while D'Amico picked up nine in his second game of the season.

The teams reunite tomorrow at 7:07 p.m.
