#3 UAA continues in-state dominance, 77-61

FAIRBANKS – Junior center Megan Mullings scored 21 points and sophomore point guard Kiki Robertson filled up the stat sheet Saturday to pace 3rd-ranked Alaska Anchorage to a 77-61 victory over Alaska Fairbanks in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball action at the Patty Center.

The Seawolves (23-1, 13-1 GNAC) got 10 points, six assists and six steals from Robertson as they won for the 11th straight time overall and the 16th time in a row against their in-state rivals, extending the longest streak in series history.

The Nanooks (13-11, 5-9) were led by 17 points from guard Autumn Childers, while guard Cassi Williams scored 14 points and played all 40 minutes.

UAF kept things close early, forging a 12-9 lead with 11:18 remaining in the first half before the Seawolves took over. Junior guard Jenna Buchanan scored two of her 12 points to spark a 10-0 run at that point, and UAA earned a 36-26 lead at halftime when Robertson sank a jumper just before the break.

Williams sliced the hosts' deficit to 38-29 on a three-pointer with 18:32 left, but Robertson answered with a three-point play to spark a 15-0 run over the next five minutes. UAA took its largest lead at 63-38 with 8:42 on the clock and cruised to the win with a 50-33 rebounding advantage.

Mullings shot 9 of 11 from the field to improve her GNAC-best percentage to .598, along with seven rebounds a pair of blocks. Senior guard Alli Madison had seven points and seven rebounds, and senior forward KeKe Wright came off the bench with seven points (3-4 FG) and a team-best eight boards.

UAA cut its magic number to two for at least a share the GNAC regular-season title. The Seawolves and second-place Seattle Pacific (19-3, 11-3) both have four games left, including a showdown Feb. 26 in Anchorage. Both teams have already clinched a spot in the GNAC Tournament, set for Mar. 4-7 in Billings, Mont.

The Seawolves play their final regular-season road series next week with trips to fourth-place Simon Fraser on Thursday, Feb. 19 and third-place Western Washington on Saturday, Feb. 21. Both games start at 6 p.m. AST.
