Seawolves earn split with 4-3 win over Chargers

ANCHORAGE - Sophomore defenseman Jarrett Brown collected two points, including the game-winning goal with 8:11 remaining Saturday, to help lift Alaska Anchorage to a 4-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Alabama Huntsville at Sullivan Arena.

The Seawolves (10-13-3, 7-11-2) also got a pair of assists from the duo of freshman Sean MacTavish and Anthony Conti as they snapped a three-game losing streak and took the season series from the Chargers, 2-1-1.

The Chargers (6-17-3, 4-13-3) took an early lead after seven minutes when Regan Soquila scored the first of his two goals, but UAA answered with three straight strikes and finished with a 31-12 shots-on-goal advantage.

Junior right wing Brad Duwe scored the equalizer on his sixth goal of the year at the 9:14 mark of the first, converting passes from MacTavish and Conti, who each collected their fourth assists.

Sophomore right wing Tad Kozun then gave UAA the lead for good when he beat UAH goalie Matt Larose '5-hole' with 2 minutes left in the first. Matt Anholt picked up his 11th assist on the play.

Seawolf scoring leader Blake Tatchell picked up his sixth goal and team-high 19th point when he poked home Brown's shot early in the second period, but the Chargers pulled within one again on Tyler Paulsen's third goal of the year.

After missing a pair of chances early in the third, the Seawolves took a 4-2 lead on Brown's third goal of the year. The Alberta native took another feed from MacTavish and Conti and beat Larose to the glove side from about 10 feet.

Soquila answered just 52 seconds later, but it would not be enough as they could not convert on more than one minute of 6-of-5 skating at the conclusion. Sophomore Olivier Mantha picked up his ninth win of the season with a modest nine saves.

UAA makes its final Lower 48 road trip of the regular season when it visits Northern Michigan for a WCHA series, Feb. 5-6.
