Hot-hitting #11 UAA blasts Billings, 3-0

ANCHORAGE – Sophomore Chrisalyn Johnson had 13 kills and 11 digs to lead a season-best offensive performance for 11th-ranked Alaska Anchorage in a 25-16, 25-11, 25-12 volleyball sweep of Montana State Billings at the Alaska Airlines Center on Thursday.

The Seawolves (23-2, 13-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got eight kills from Diana Fa'amausili, seven from Leah Swiss, and six apiece from Morgan Hooe and Erin Braun as they connected for a season-high .376 attack percentage.

The Yellowjackets (4-19, 2-11) got nine kills and six digs from outside hitter Ashlynn Ward but managed to hit only .053, suffering their 14th straight defeat against UAA.

Holding an early 10-9 lead in the first set, the Seawolves used a kill and two blocks from Fa'amausili to spark a 5-0 run and pulled away from there. UAA jumped to 10-3 lead in the second set and won the hitting battle .435 to .000 in that frame, before finishing with a .467 to .034 hitting edge in the final set.

Hooe was nearly perfect again, finishing with six kills and no errors on nine attacks (.667), 28 assists and seven digs. The only blemish for the All-America senior setter was one service error, although the Seawolves managed a 7-1 advantage in aces.

Johnson connected at a .345 rate to record her sixth straight double-double, along with two aces and three block assists, and Swiss added seven digs and three assists. All six Seawolf attackers hit .273 or better with at least three kills. Freshman Vanessa Hayes had a team-high four total blocks, and sophomore Kyla Militante-Amper tallied 10 digs and three assists.

After four straight home matches, UAA ends the regular season with four of its last six on the road, starting Friday, Nov. 4, at Concordia in Portland, Ore.

NOTES: Braun earned her 92nd victory in a Seawolf uniform, tying Jen Szcerbinski (1988-90, '92) for the program's career individual record; Hooe is just two victories behind with 90 … Hayes recorded just the second solo block of her young career … MSUB's last victories over UAA came when the Yellowjackets won both matches in the 2009 season.
