#9 UAA controls Cavs, 3-0, wins 17th straight

ANCHORAGE – Freshman Diana Fa'amausili had team-highs of 10 kills and six blocks Saturday as the 9th-ranked Alaska Anchorage volleyball team extended its school-record win streak with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-18 sweep of Concordia (Ore.) at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Winners of 17 in a row, the Seawolves (18-1, 8-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got six kills, 22 assists and 11 digs from All-America setter Morgan Hooe and outhit the visitors from Portland .282 to .039.

The Cavaliers (8-8, 4-4) got a match-high 11 kills from Lindsey Dorsey and 24 assists from setter Michele Brown, but the second-year GNAC members couldn't mount a serious challenge late in any set.

UAA jumped to leads of 14-7 in both the first and second frames and seemed destined for the sweep with an 18-10 lead in the third. Concordia made its biggest push at that point with a 5-0 run, but Fa'amausili and Erin Braun notched solo blocks on two of the next three rallies to claim a 21-15 lead. Fa'amausili finished it off with a thunderous spike down the middle, earning her sixth match with double-digit kills and her first in league play.

Sophomore libero Kyla Militante-Amper had an outstanding effort with 23 digs, six assists (one shy of her career high) and two aces, while committing no service or reception errors. Braun had five kills and five total blocks, Chrisalyn Johnson notched six kills and her first two career aces, and freshman Vanessa Hayes had four kills and five block assists.

Concordia entered the match with the GNAC's third-best attack percentage at .227, while UAA came into the week with the fourth-best opponent attack percentage (.109) in NCAA Div. II.

The Seawolves return to the road for matches at fellow playoff contenders Central Washington (Thur., Oct. 13, 6 p.m. ADT) and Northwest Nazarene (Sat., Oct. 15, 5 p.m. ADT) next week. Both contests can be viewed live at gnac.tv or portal.stretchinternet.com/uaa.

NOTES: UAA has won all nine sets in three matches against the GNAC's newest member, following a pair of sweeps against Concordia in 2015 … Braun increased her career block assists total to 357, now just two behind record-holder Sabrina Bingham (359, 1996-99) … Braun also increased her career victories total to 87 (No. 2 on the program list), while Hooe tied former teammate Katelynn Zanders for No. 3 with her 85th win in Green & Gold … the Seawolves improved to 8-0 at home this year.
