Crusaders knock off Seawolves in Nampa, 71-67

NAMPA, Idaho – Diante Mitchell scored 22 points and Corey Hammell grabbed 15 rebounds but the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team suffered a cold-shooting night in a 71-67 loss to Northwest Nazarene at the Johnson Sports Center on Saturday.

The Seawolves (5-3, 1-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 20 points from senior guard Suki Wiggs, who was coming off a school-record 46 points in Thursday's victory at Central Washington. UAA was outshot 44 percent to 33 percent, however, and lost despite a 42-36 rebounding advantage.

The Crusaders (3-4, 1-1) were led by 13 points apiece from Bouna N'Diaye and Pol Olivier, while Kaleb Rodriguez had 12 points and seven rebounds.

UAA trailed early and fought from behind most of the night before taking a brief lead midway through the second half. Following another NNU run, Wiggs brought the game even at 54-54 with a three-pointer at the 5:36 mark. The Crusaders answered right back with a trey from Olivier, however, and never relinquished the advantage.

Hammell grabbed at least 15 rebounds for the second straight game and the eighth time in 40 games as a Seawolf, while Mitchell's scoring effort was a season best and the third-highest output of his career.

The Seawolves will take a week off for final exams and return to the court Dec. 17-18 when they host two non-conference games against Trinity Western at the Alaska Airlines Center.
