Morgan Hooe had 29 assists Friday to pace 14th-ranked Alaska Anchorage to a 25-17, 25-11, 25-19 sweep of Rollins in the Match 4 of the SpringHill Suites Invitational volleyball tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (4-1) also got 21 digs and a career-high seven assists from sophomore libero
Kyla Militante-Amper as they out-hit the visitors from Winter Park, Fla., .279 to .090 and outdug them 66-47.
The Tars (0-2) – playing their second match in six hours against a nationally ranked foe – were led by nine kills and seven digs from outside hitter Rachel Sawyer.
UAA pulled away midway through the opening set and took control early in the second, jumping to a 4-1 lead on a pair of kills from Fa'amausili. The third set was another close one until a Rollins service error snapped an 11-11 tie and kicked off a 6-0 run for the Seawolves. The Tars fought back late to draw within 22-19 before sophomore outside hitter
Chrisalyn Johnson slammed home a feed from Hooe, and the hosts closed it out on the next two rallies.
Johnson finished with eight kills, seven digs and four block assists, while Swiss added eight digs. Hooe contributed four kills and compiling all 16 of her digs in the first two sets, coming just three shy of her career high.
The Seawolves return to action in the round-robin tourney Friday night with a key NCAA Div. II West Region showdown against Stanislaus State (1-0) at 7:30 p.m.
MATCH 3: Stanislaus State 3, Westminster 0Taylor Massengale had 16 kills and Blair Ehrlich delivered 11 kills and 19 digs Friday to pace Stanislaus State to a 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 shutout of Westminster in the SpringHill Suite Invitational.
Setter Maddie Siedl had 40 assists and four kills to help the Warriors (1-0) overcome a 15-12 deficit in the third set.
The Griffins (0-2) got nine kills from outside hitter Amanda Spere and 13 digs by libero Megan Gallegos as they were out-hit .289 to .139.
MATCH 2: #19 Arkansas Fort Smith 3, Rollins 0Outside hitter Kennedi Coleman banged 13 kills and libero Emily Tripp made 23 digs to carry No. 19 Arkansas Fort Smith to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 sweep of Rollins in Friday's 9 a.m. match in the SpringHill Suites Invitational.
The Lions (1-0) also got five kills apiece from Payton Hamilton and Merissa Murphy as the defending Heartland Conference champions out-hit their opponents from the Sunshine State Conference, .206 to .088.
Rollins (0-1) was led by 13 kills and 10 digs from outside hitter Rachel Sawyer.
