Box Score HUNTSVILLE, ALA. – The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team scored three power-play goals in the second period before settling for a 3-3 tie at Alabama Huntsville Saturday. The Seawolves earned a second point on the night after winning the shootout.
Josh Kestner gave the Chargers a first-period lead with a power-play goal at 7:15.
The Seawolves scored all three of its goals in a penalty-ridden second period with the two teams combining for 33 penalty minutes.
Nicolas Erb-Ekholm tied the game at 1-1 at 14:03 of the second period thanks to some crisp passing from Jonah Renouf and Eric Sinclair.
Austin Azurdia extended his scoring streak to three games by netting a power-play goal at 17:57. Jonah Renouf and Joe Sofo assisted on the goal.
Jonah Renouf tallied his third assist of the night on Tad Kozun's power-play goal in the final seconds of the period.
Josh Kestner scored his second goal of the evening for UAH, scoring on a rebound at 4:36 of the third.
The Chargers pulled their goalie for a six-on-four advantage in the final minute of play. Connor Merkley scored the game-tying goal, with Josh Kestner recording an assist for his third point of the game.
Jeremiah Luedtke scored for UAA and Olivier Mantha made a save to secure the shootout win.
Seven Seawolves recorded a point in the tie.
Both teams finished 3-for-6 on the man-advantage.
The Chargers finished with a slight 42-38 lead in shots.
Alaska Anchorage (1-7-2, 1-2-1) will host Michigan Tech (5-6-2, 3-5-2) Nov. 17-18.
