Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. – The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team fell in overtime in its WCHA opener at Lake Superior State Friday.
After a scoreless first period, Nicolas Erb-Ekholm scored his second goal of the season on the power play at 00:30 of the second period. Erb-Ekholm scored with a tap-in on the back post thanks to assists from the Renouf brothers, Nathan and Jonah.
Anthony Nellis tied it at 1-1 when he poked in a rebound at 16:56 of the second period.
William Riedell gave the Lakers a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 2:26 of the third period.
Cameron Trott tied the game at 2-2 with a low wrist shot on the power play at 13:41 of the third period.
Max Humitz scored the game-winner with a wrist shot through traffic at 3:38 of the first overtime.
LSSU finished 2-for-4 on the man-advantage, and UAA was 1-4.
The Lakers finished with a 34-26 edge in shots.
Olivier Mantha finished with 31 saves for the Seawolves.
UAA (0-6-1, 0-1-0) and LSSU (2-6-2, 1-1-1) will face-off on Saturday.
