#16 Seawolves rout Silverswords in home opener, 93-45

ANCHORAGE – Sophomore guard Nicole Pinckney scored a career-high 17 points and senior point guard Yazmeen Goo dished eight assists Saturday to help the 16th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to a 93-45 rout of Chaminade in its 2019-20 home opener at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (2-0) also got 12 points apiece from guard Safiyyah Yasin and forward Sala Langi, plus nine points and 12 rebounds from starting center Tennae Voliva, as they stayed unbeaten in 12 all-time meetings against the visitors from Honolulu.

The Silverswords (0-1) were led by 12 points and five rebounds from starting guard Destiny Castro.

"I was pleased with our balance tonight," said UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy, whose team got at least one field goal from 11 of its 12 active players. "I thought we shared the ball well and took advantage of our opportunities in transition, which is a key to our system."

Chaminade's Breann Nueku nailed a three-pointer at the 5:25 mark of the first quarter to forge a 7-7 tie, but the Seawolves took over from there as Langi scored 17 seconds later, starting a 13-2 run to end the period.

UAA led by double figures the rest of the way, outscoring Chaminade 25-11 in both the second and third quarters.

Returning from a redshirt campaign after suffering a knee injury 14 months ago, Pinckney shot 6 of 12 overall and 5 of 9 from three-point range, along with a pair of UAA's 20 steals.

Voliva just missed her second straight double-double, tying her career high in rebounds and picking up a game-high four steals – one more than the Silverswords had as a team.

Kedranea' Addison contributed nine points and four assists off the bench, while fellow junior guard Stephanie Jackson added eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, five assists and three steals.

The Seawolves return to action at the Alaska Airlines Center on Sunday at 5 p.m. against San Francisco State (0-1). Visit AlaskaAirlinesCenter.com for tickets.
