Seawolves score two points Saturday

Box Score

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Alaska Anchorage and Ferris State skated to a 1-1 tie, but Jonah Renouf scored in the 3-on-3 period to give Alaska Anchorage a second point in the WCHA standings Saturday.

"I was really happy how the guys responded tonight," said head coach Matt Curley. "I thought we played well yesterday but lacked that consistent jam that we needed to get over the hump. We got that tonight and it ended up being the difference for us, getting the extra league point but more importantly for our group, the OT win."

Nicolas Erb-Ekholm put the Seawolves on the board first with an unassisted goal at 3:45 of the first period. Erb-Ekholm caused a turnover in front of the Ferris State goal and then scored his fifth goal of the season from the doorstep.

Joe Rutkowski fired a shot at the UAA goal but it was tipped by Craig Pefley past goalie Kris Carlson at 6:09 of the first frame.

Neither team could find a way to light the lamp until Jonah Renouf sent a shot on goal that trickled past FSU goalie Roni Salmenkangas one minute into the 3-on-3 period. Tomi Hiekkavirta assisted on the goal.

UAA led in shots (27-26) for the second straight night.

The two teams were a combined 0-for-6 on the powerplay. The Seawolves have killed off 24 straight penalties.

Kris Carlson finished with 25 saves for the Seawolves.

Alaska Anchorage will make its final road trip of the regular season to Michigan Tech Feb. 22-23.
