Hockey faces LSSU in critical WCHA match-up

Alaska Anchorage will make its third road trip of the season to the upper peninsula of Michigan for a two-game series at Lake Superior State. The Lakers are currentl seventh in the WCHA standings with 19 points, while the Seawolves are in eighth place with 18 points. 

Series
Alaska Anchorage trails the all-time series with Lake Superior State 6-12-0 and trails the series in Sault Ste. Marie 2-5-0. The Seawolves and Lakers split their series earlier this month with UAA winning game one 2-0 and LSSU taking game two 5-3. 

First Start
Freshman Brandon Perrone got his first start in goal in UAA's 2-2 tie with UAH last weekend. The Hauppauge, N.Y., native made 18 saves and allowed two goals for the Seawolves. 

Friday Win
Last weeks win over Alabama Huntsville was the first win for Alaska Anchorage on a Friday this season. The team's other three wins all came on Saturday's. 

Multi-Point Games
UAA had seven players record multiple points in last week's series with UAH. Freshman Alex Frye led the Seawolves with a team-best three points, including a short-handed goal to go along with two assists. Freshman Zach Nazzarette scored a team-high two goals, both in the 5-1 win, and senior Luc Brown finished with one goal and one assist. Sophomore Jared, Nash, sophomore Zach Court, senior Tomi Hiekkavirta and freshman Rylee St. Onge each tallied two assists.

40 Shots
Alaska Anchorage recorded a season-high 46 shots against Alabama Huntsville in a 5-1 win last week. The last time Alaska Anchorage recorded more than 40 shots was a 3-2 win over Arizona State on Oct. 9, 2015. 

Freshmen Scoring
The freshmen class leads the team in goals (25), assists (32) and points (57), and has scored 7 of the team's 12 goals on the powerplay. The junior class, which has the fewest points, has scored two of the team's four game-winning goals. 

Last Time Out
Alaska Anchorage took five of six points from Alabama Huntsville last week. 

Looking Ahead
Alaska Anchorage will return home to host Minnesota State Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
