Hockey heads to #3MSU for WCHA Playoffs

Alaska Anchorage will play at top-seeded No. 3 Minnesota State in the WCHA Playoffs this weekend. This marks the first time Alaska Anchorage has made the WCHA playoffs since the 2013-14 season.

Series
Minnesota State leads the all-time series with Alaska Anchorage 55-25-11 and leads 32-10-4 in Mankato. The Mavericks lead 3-0-1 in the series this season. This year will mark only the second time that UAA and MSU have played each other in the WCHA Playoffs. Minnesota State won the series 2-1 (OT) and 3-2 in March of 2000.

Century Club
Alaska Anchorage had two players appear in their 100th career games for UAA last weekend in Fairbanks. Senior defenseman David Trinkberger has scored two goals and eight assists during his career, while junior defenseman Eric Sinclair has scored seven goals and 11 assists during his career. Senior Tomi Hiekkavirta will join the century club if he plays in two games this weekend in Mankato.

Scoring Streak
Senior Luc Brown tallied two points (one goal, one assist) in the first game at UAF last weekend to extend his point streak to five games, but the streak came to an end the following night. Brown leads the team with 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) and has scored in 14 of 18 games he has appeared in this season.

Multi-Point Weekend
Freshman Rylee St. Onge tallied his fourth multi-point series of the season with an assist each night at Alaska Fairbanks last weekend. He ranks second on the team in both goals (eight) and points (17) and is one of four players to appear in all 34 games this season.

Powerplay
The UAA powerplay has improved over the last four games (Bemidji State, Alaska Fairbanks) scoring three goals in 16 chances across its last four games. Prior to that, the Seawolves were 0-20 on the man-advantage in the three series against Minnesota State, Bowling Green and Arizona State.

Last Time Out
Alaska Fairbanks swept the series last week (5-2, 6-1) in Fairbanks to win the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.

Looking Ahead
If Alaska Anchorage wins this weekend's series, it will advance to the semifinals of the WCHA Playoffs where it will face the highest-remaining seed.
