LONG, TOUGH STRETCH BEGINS: Barring further complications, the Seawolves will end a string of six straight postponements with road games Thursday at Montana State Billings, Saturday at Seattle Pacific and Monday at Western Washington ... having played just one game since Dec. 5, the Seawolves must now finish GNAC play with a gauntlet of 15 games in 31 days ... Monday's game is the first postponement (originally scheduled Jan. 6) to be made up ... entering Thursday, UAA has played at least two fewer GNAC games than every team in the league, except Western Washington, which has played one more.
 
SCHEDULE UPDATE: Three of UAA's six postponements have been rescheduled thus far ... the Jan. 1 home game vs. MSU Billings is now set for Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center; the Jan. 6 road game at Western Washington will now be played Jan. 31, and the Jan. 8 road game at Simon Fraser will now be played Feb. 14 ... new dates for the Jan. 13 & 15 home games vs. Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene, plus the Jan. 20 UAF road game, are yet to be determined.
 
SCOUTING THE FOES: Montana State Billings has won three of its last four, with a 70-68 home loss to Saint Martin's and a 67-54 home win over Seattle Pacific in its most recent outings ... the Yellowjackets, who have not played since Jan. 15, are led by Carrington Wiggins (16.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.4 apg, 2.3 spg, .810 FT) and Damen Thacker (13.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.5 spg, .881 FT) ... defending (2019-20) GNAC regular-season champion and 2021-22 preseason favorite Seattle Pacific has actually played four straight regularly scheduled games, splitting its most recent series at Western Washington (78-69 win) and Simon Fraser (75-72 loss) last week ... the Falcons are led by Divant'e Moffitt (17.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 4.0 apg, .491 FG, .762 FT) and Shaw Anderson (14.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, .358 3FG, .897 FT) ... Western Washington has dropped two straight and three of its last four entering the week, earning its last win in a 94-92 home thriller over Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 8 ... the Vikings are led by Daniel Hornbuckle (14.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.3 apg, .475 FG, .473 3FG, .757 FT) and Jalen Green (14.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.4 bpg, .557 FG).

TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves fell one spot in this week's D2SIDA West Region media poll to No. 7, giving the GNAC three of the top 10 ... UAA leads the early GNAC stats in assists per game (19.2), A/T ratio (1.7) and 3FGs per game (11.3), while ranking top-3 in scoring defense (68.3), rebound defense (31.2), rebound margin (+5.3), offensive rebounds per game (12.0) and offensive rebound pct. (.352) ... of 297 teams nationally, the Seawolves rank among the top 50 in six categories, including top-10 marks in A/T ratio (4th), assists per game (7th) and 3FGs per game (9th) ... the Seawolves have recorded winning records in 14 of the last 15 seasons (the other was .500) and 35 of 43 seasons in program history ... 'WOLF BITES: A First Team All-GNAC performer as a junior in 2019-20, Sr. F/C Oggie Pantovic has gotten off to a strong start, holding early league ranks of 10th in scoring (14.9 ppg), 2nd in rebounding (9.7 rpg, 24th nationally), t-1st in blocks (1.6 bpg), 10th in FT% (.792) and 14th in FG% (.517) ... the Preseason All-GNAC pick has posted three consecutive double-doubles to raise his career total to 13, and he's posted double-figure scoring in 27 of his last 29 contests ... the Serb earned GNAC Player of the Week honors for his play against Quincy and Hawaii Hilo ... another Preseason All-GNAC pick, Jr. G Tobin Karlberg ranks 5th in the early GNAC stats with 17.0 ppg, producing three 20-plus efforts thus far ... the local Grace Christian HS star has scored double figures in nine of 10 games this year and 28 of his last 34 outings ... Karlberg's .442 career 3FG% currently sits 6th on UAA's all-time list, while current streak of 25 straight games with a three-pointer is 7th-longest ... Sr. F Hunter Sweet has improved the skills that made him an honorable mention All-GNAC selection as a junior at Concordia-Portland in 2019-20, scoring at least 9 points in each game, and becoming the first Seawolf since Suki Wiggs in 2016-17 to post multiple 30-point efforts in the same season (Nov. 16 at UHH, Nov. 27 vs. Quincy) ... in the GNAC stats, the Portland native ranks 7th in scoring (16.6 ppg), 6th in rebounding (6.6 rpg), 7th in 3FGs per game (2.4), 18th in 3FG% (.400) and 3rd in minutes (35.7, 37th nationally) ... Sr. PG David Rowlands has delivered as UAA's new floor general, ranking 2nd in the GNAC with 5.7 assists per game (23rd nationally), plus 3rd in A/T ratio (3.0, 19th nationally), 20h in scoring (13.0 ppg), 2nd in FT% (.857), 5th in 3FGs per game (2.6), 11th in 3FG% (.419) and 9th in minutes (33.4) ... the grad transfer from Hawaii Pacific has scored double figures in eight of 10 outings and has at least two rebounds and two assists in all nine games ... another Concordia-Portland transfer, So. G Caleb Larsen has displayed a sharp-shooting stroke thus far, ranking 7th in the GNAC with .447 3FG shooting, along with other ranks of 13th in assists (2.7 apg) and 3rd in A/T ratio (3.0) ... Jr. F Keegan Crosby has moved into the starting lineup and already surpassed his production from his sophomore season ... the Seattle native has grabbed at least 5 rebounds in seven of 10 games and had knocked down at least one three-pointer in the last seven contests ... in the GNAC stats, Crosby ranks tied for 6th in rebounding (6.6 rpg), boosted by a career-high 15 boards in the win over Quincy.
 
TRUST IN RUSTY: In his 17th season (18th year) at the helm, head coach Rusty Osborne (306-183) has now led the Seawolves to 15 straight seasons of .500-plus records, along with five NCAA Tournaments and a trip to the 2008 NCAA D-II Semifinals … the longest tenured coach in program history and in the GNAC, he became the first UAA basketball coach to reach 200 career victories when the Seawolves beat Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 10, 2015 … Osborne captured his first career GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths (2006-08), and in 2011-12 his Seawolves posted a 24-10 record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne's 2007-08 club holds that record with a 29-6 mark … before taking over the head job in 2004-05, the Texas native previously served 13 seasons (1991-04) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant … the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament ... Osborne is assisted in Ryan Orton (7th season/8th year), Jalon McCullough (1st season) and volunteer assistant Ryan Engebretsen (1st season/2nd year).
