HONOLULU – Senior forward
Vishe' Rabb scored 18 points to propel a big fourth quarter for the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team in a 77-60 victory Monday over Chaminade at McCabe Gymnasium.
The Seawolves (3-0) also got 11 points from sophomore guard
Jazzpher Evans and 10 points apiece from
Nicole Pinckney and
Kate Robertson as they improved to 13-0 all-time against the Silverswords (0-3).
Chaminade was led by 18 points from guard Olivia Crigler, but the hosts were hurt by 26 turnovers and held to 30 percent (16 of 54) shooting.
Entering with an average victory margin of 51 points in the previous dozen meetings, the Seawolves seemed on their way to another blowout with a 20-6 advantage after one quarter.
But the hosts outscored UAA 21-16 in the second quarter and fought to a draw in the third, finding themselves down just 50-42 ten seconds into the final period.
Pinckney nailed a pull-up jumper to start a 7-0 Seawolf surge over the next minute, however, and the lead stretched to 62-43 on consecutive baskets by Evans and Rabb. Rabb added another basket to push the largest advantage to 71-49 left. The Augustana (S.D.) transfer shot 7 of 13 from the floor, along with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and no turnover in a team-high 28 minutes.
Senior guard
Jahnna Hajdukovich added eight points, four rebounds and two steals, while junior point guard
Anaiah Moore had four points, five assists and three of UAA's 13 steals.
The Seawolves return home to host the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout at the Alaska Airlines Center this weekend, starting with a 7:30 p.m. tip against D-I foe Pepperdine on Friday. Surf to GoSeawolves.com for complete schedule and tickets.
