Ski team announces 2022-23 schedule

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Anchorage announced the skiing schedule for 2022-23 that is highlighted by the UAA Invite and the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association Championships hosted by UAA.

The Nordic team will open the season with the annual Alaska Nordic Cup hosted by in-state rival Alaska Fairbanks Nov. 25-26. The Nordic team will return to competition after the holiday break with races at the US Cross Country Skiing National Championships (Jan. 3-8) and the Montana State Invite (Jan. 13-14).

After a series of Nor-Am races, the alpine team will send a small contingent of student-athletes to the World University Games in Lake Placid, New York Jan. 17-21. The alpine team will open RMISA competition at the Westminster Invite Jan. 26-27th.

Both the alpine and Nordic ski teams will compete at the Colorado and Denver Invites before hosting the UAA Invite and RMISA Championships.

The UAA Invite will consist of freestyle sprint races and a 10-kilometer classic race at Kincaid Park on Feb. 20-21, while the alpine team will host giant slalom and slalom races at Alyeska Resort on Feb. 21st and 23rd.

The RMISA Championships will feature four days of racing at Alyeska and Government Peak Recreation Area. The giant slalom will take place on Feb. 22nd and the slalom on Feb. 24th. The Nordic races will start with a 10-kilometer freestyle on Feb. 24th and conclude with a 20-kilometer classic race on Feb. 25th.

The season will culminate with the NCAA Championships March 8-11 in Lake Placid, New York.

"We've got a great group of athletes competing in all four events and I'm excited to accompany Ainsley Proffit and Hunter Eid to the World University games to represent Team USA," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "It's a busy schedule and we're hard at work preparing."
