SFU spoils UAA hockey's return

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – A raucous crowd of over 600 people turned out to watch the first University of Alaska Anchorage hockey game in 930 days, but they left in heartbreak as Simon Fraser scored the lone goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining to earn the 1-0 win.

Logan Bromhead's shot was turned aside by UAA goalie Nolan Kent, but Mathieu Jallabert scored the rebound on the open net.

"I thought we did enough to win tonight, but we ran into a hot goalie," said head coach Matt Shasby. "We are going to watch film and learn from tonight and get ready for Western Michigan."

Simon Fraser held a 10-8 advantage after the first period, but Alaska Anchorage out-shot them 20-8 over the final two periods and finished with a 28-8 edge in shots.

Joey Lamoreaux started the first two periods in net finishing with 14 saves. Nolan Kent made three saves on four shots.

Red Leafs goalie Cale Dolan finished with 28 saves in the shutout win.

UAA was 0-for-3 on the powerplay, and SFU finished 0-for-5.

UAA will host a Green & Gold game Saturday at 3 pm at the Seawolf Sports Complex. Admission is free.
