Hockey to face UAF in Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup

Alaska Anchorage will play a two-game series against Alaska Fairbanks to close out the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup this weekend.  

Series
Alaska Anchorage leads the all-time series with Alaska Fairbanks 93-80-12. The Nanooks have won all four of the previous meetings against the Seawolves this season. 

Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup
Alaska Fairbanks has secured this year's Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup. This year marks the 17th time the Nanooks have won the cup. The Seawolves have won the cup eight times, the most recent during the 2008-09 season. 

Deuces
Ben Almquist scored a pair of goals at Maine on Jan. 7th. He is the first Seawolf to score two goals in a game since Alex Frye scored two against Bemidji State on Feb. 22, 2020. 

Transfers
UAA's top five point scorers are all transfers, Ben Almquist (Minnesota Duluth), Maximilion Helgeson (Lindenwood), Connor Marritt (Northern Michigan), Derek Hamelin (Canisius) and Caleb Hite (Alaska Fairbanks). 

Upper Classmen
Juniors and seniors have accounted for 63 of the team's 94 points this season.

Overtime
Alaska Anchorage's 4-3 loss at Maine on Jan. 7th was the team's first overtime game since Feb. 22, 2020 against Bemidji State. UAA did not play during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. 

More Time in Net
Freshman Jared Whale has seen more time in net for the Seawolves. He made 52 saves in the 4-2 win at UMass Lowell on Dec. 30 and made 40 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss at Maine on Jan. 7th.

First Goal
Jarred White became the 12th Seawolf this season to score a goal when he scored his first goal for Alaska Anchorage at 17:18 of the third period at Maine on Jan. 7th. 

Last Time Out
Maine swept Alaska Anchorage in Orono 1-0, 4-3 back on Jan. 6-7.  

Looking Ahead
Alaska Anchorage will have nearly a month off before it plays at UConn on Feb. 23rd.
