ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Alaska Anchorage jumped out to an early lead but fell to Air Force 4-3 in overtime Saturday.
The Seawolves wasted no time getting a lead as Ben Almquist scored on the first shot of the game only 38 seconds into the contest.
Ben Almquist scored his second goal of the evening at 4:42 as Max Helgeson collected his second assist of the game.
Helgeson tallied his third point of the game when he redirected a shot by Gunnar VanDamme past Air Force goalie Guy Blessing at 8:16 of the second period.
The Falcons broke up the shutout with a power-play goal by Will Gavin with two minutes left in the second.
Mason McCormick scored a shot-handed goal at 1:40 of the third period, and Luke Rowe tied the game with a blast off the faceoff at 7:59.
Austin Schwartz scored the game-winner short-handed 2:13 into overtime to give Air Force the win.
Chris Hedden assisted on three of Air Force's four goals.
"I thought we played our best 38 minutes the of the year to start," said head coach Matt Shasby. "Then we gave them some life with the late power-play goal in the second. We didn't come out to finish the job in the third, and they took advantage."
UAA out-shot AFA 28-22, and Air Force scored the lone power-play goal of the game.
Jared Whale made 18 saves for the Seawolves.
Alaska Anchorage will head to Penn State for a two-game series Oct. 26-27.
