Helgeson scores in loss

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Maximilion Helgeson scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season for Alaska Anchorage in a 3-1 loss to Alaska Fairbanks in the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Saturday.

With the win, the Nanooks secured this season's Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.

Brady Risk scored a pair of back-to-back goals for UAF at 3:24 and 19:13 of the second period.

Helgeson scored his power-play goal at 13:54 of the third period with Brett Bamber and William Gilson assisting on the goal.

The Seawolves played with the extra attacker for two minutes but were unable to score the equalizer.

Cade Ahrenholz scored an empty-net goal for the Nanooks with nine seconds remaining.

UAA out-shot UAF 34-30, including a 17-8 edge in the final frame.

The game was riddled with 16 penalties for 40 penalty minutes. UAA finished 1-for-6 and held UAF scoreless on seven powerplay opportunities.

Jared Whale finished with 27 saves for UAA.

Alaska Anchorage will play at Massachusetts Dec. 8-9.
