Rabb, Hajdukovich lead Seawolves past Saints, 73-66

ANCHORAGE – Vishe' Rabb delivered 25 points and 10 rebounds Thursday and Jahnna Hajdukovich powered a huge third-quarter surge to lead the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to a 76-63 victory over Saint Martin's at the Alaska Airlines Center.

A senior guard from Anchorage, Hajdukovich scored all 18 of her points during an eight-minute span of the third quarter as the Seawolves (15-9, 7-8 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) shot 9 of 15 in that period. Sophomore guard Jazzpher Evans added nine points, three assists and two steals to help UAA move back into GNAC Tournament position, now tied for fifth in the 10-team league with three games remaining.

The Saints (8-15, 4-11) were led by 14 points apiece from Sarah Lamet and Kiana Rios, but the visitors from Lacey, Wash., were outshot .466 to .377 as they moved to the brink of postseason elimination.

"For as sloppy as we were on our first couple of possessions of the third quarter, we couldn't have asked for much better execution over the next nine minutes," said UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy, whose program clinched its 17th consecutive winning season. "Saint Martin's doesn't have much depth at their point guard position, so fortunately we were also able to wear them down defensively as the game continued. Vishe' and Jahnna had big nights again, but it was also really nice to see solid contributions up and down the lineup."

After snapping a 13-game losing streak against UAA with a 66-65 win Jan. 21 in Washington, the Saints went toe-to-toe with the Seawolves in the rematch, grabbing a 23-17 lead early in the second quarter. The Seawolves got a key three-pointer from freshman Elaina Mack to stop the bleeding, however, and took a 31-29 lead into halftime on two late free throws by Rabb.

Saint Martin's scored the first six points of the second half to go up 35-31, but Hajdukovich scored eight points during a 10-0 Seawolf run that changed the momentum for good. The former Dimond High star gave UAA its first double-digit lead with two free throws at the 3:02 mark, before nailing her fourth three-pointer of the quarter for a 62-47 edge.

Rabb gave UAA its largest lead, 69-48, on a feed from Mack with 8:29 remaining. The Augustana (S.D.) transfer recorded her third double-double as a Seawolf, shooting 9 of 18 from the field and 6 of 6 at the free-throw line, along with four assists.

Junior guard Hayley Berfield added six points on 3-of-4 shooting off the bench, while starting post Kate Robertson finished with four points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Seawolves finish their home season Saturday with a 5:15 p.m. tip against Western Oregon at the Alaska Airlines Center, with pregame ceremonies set to honor their five seniors. Surf to GoSeawolves.com for tickets and live links.
