Helgeson leads hockey team to victory

LONG ISLAND, NY – Maximilion Helgeson scored the first and the last goal for the University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team in a 5-3 win at Long Island Tuesday.

"Very pleased with how we found a way to compete at a high level at the end of a long road trip and fourth game in six nights," said head coach Matt Shasby. "Our guys continued to do the things it takes to win at this level. Lamoreaux gave us another great performance. Looking forward to finishing off the year the next two weekends at home."

The Seawolves raced out to an early 3-0 lead over the first six minutes of the contest.

Max Helgeson capitalized on the first powerplay of the game when he scored at 2:41.

The Seawolves continued their success on the powerplay on their next opportunity as Dylan Finlay scored at 4:06.

Connor Marritt extended the Seawolves lead to 3-0 with a low shot past Sharks goalie Brandon Perrone at 5:56.

Josh Zary tipped a shot past Joey Lamoreaux at 10:50, but Conor Cole answered with a short-handed goal at 13:07 to complete the scoring in a busy first period.

The Sharks mounted a comeback in the second with a powerplay goal by Cade Masson and an even-strength goal by former UAA player Zach Nazzarett at 18:40.

Max Helgeson scored his seventh goal of the season, an empty-netter with five seconds remaining. Helgeson has recorded seven points (two goals, five assists) in his last four games and is tied for the team lead with 17 points.

UAA had 10 different players record a point in the contest.

Joey Lamoreaux finished with 29 saves for his third win of the season.

Alaska Anchorage will host Arizona State March 3-4.
