ANCHORAGE (May 26) – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team added more local talent to its roster Friday as head coach
Rusty Osborne announced junior-college standout Bishop Tosi has signed a scholarship agreement to play for the Seawolves.
A 6-6, 230-pound forward, the Anchorage native totaled 820 points and 457 rebounds in 59 games in his first two collegiate seasons at Bellevue College in Washington, leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back Northwest Athletic Conference title games. Tosi was a First Team All-NWAC North Region performer as a sophomore last year, averaging 15.0 points on 54 percent shooting, 8.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 blocks per game, and posting six double-doubles. The former Bartlett High School star posted 24 points and nine rebounds in the NWAC quarterfinals against Tacoma among his six 20-point efforts, and finished with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the 2023 NWAC championship victory over Everett.
"We are thrilled to finally get Bishop in the Green & Gold," said Osborne, whose roster also features fellow Alaskans
Luke Devine (Wasilla), Hasaan Herrington (Anchorage/East), Sloan Lentfer (Anchorage/Grace Christian), and
Jaron Williams (Anchorage/East). "As with others in the 2021 class, we were not able to offer him out of high school because of our Covid waivers. However, we have followed him closely the last two years and he has been one of our main targets to help our frontcourt. Simply, Bishop is a 'winner.' He can do many things on a basketball court, but what he does best is help his teams win."
As a freshman at Bellevue, Tosi earned Second Team All-NWAC North honors with averages of 12.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.5 apg and 1.4 bpg, shooting .514 from the field, .414 on threes and .802 at the foul stripe. He scored double figures in 18 of 27 games as a rookie, including 24 points (11-11 FT) in an 88-80 road win over Shoreline and a 17-point/11-rebound effort in the NWAC title-game loss to Yakima Valley.
"Bishop gives us a strong, experienced combo frontcourt player who is an elite rebounder with offensive skills that fit into our system," Osborne added. "After helping his Bellevue team to a championship and a runner-up finish, he understands what it takes to win in the postseason, and we look forward to adding that quality to our rotation. In addition, Bish is an outstanding student and a tremendous role model for our local youth."
Tosi was a three-time All-Cook Inlet Conference performer at Bartlett High School, earning AABC First Team All-State honors as a senior in 2020-21. Along with several all-tournament awards, he set the Bartlett single-game scoring record with 45 points in a February 2021 game against Dimond.
Tosi becomes the sixth member of UAA's 2023 recruiting class, joining fellow transfers Hasaan Herrington (6-3, G, Anchorage/East HS/UT Tyler) and Malik Jackson (6-6, G/F, Castro Valley, Calif./Dublin HS/Peninsula College), along with prep signees Trey Evans (6-5, PG, South Jordan, Utah/Real Salt Lake Academy), Sloan Lentfer (6-7, F, Anchorage/Grace Christian HS) and Lyman Simmons (6-10, F/C, St. George, Utah/Real Salt Lake Academy).
