ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Matt Kinash and Matt Allen each scored two goals to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage to a 7-2 win over Vancouver Island Friday.
"As a group it was a good opportunity for our freshmen to get some game reps and for some guys to try and build some chemistry," said head coach Matt Shasby. "We see we have some things to focus on this week in practice to be ready for next Saturday. We really appreciate Vancouver Island for making the trip."
The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead with a pair of goals in the first four minutes of play.
Brett Bamber scored the third straight goal for the Seawolves before Logan Kurki scored the first goal for the Mariners, on the powerplay, at 10:20 of the first.
Matt Kinash tallied his second goal of the game midway through the second period, and Caleb Franklin scored the second goal for VIU.
William Gilson scored the lone goal of the second period for UAA at 6:15.
Matt Allen scored 75 seconds into the third period for the Seawolves, and Mitch Lafay concluded the scoring at 13:52 of the third period.
UAA had nine different players record a point, with four players finishing with two points.
Alaska Anchorage was 0-for-5 on the powerplay and Vancouver Island was 1-for-3.
The Seawolves rotated goalies each period. Jared Whale started and made two saves and allowed two goals. Joey Lamoreaux made two saves in the second, and Greg Ososz made five saves in the third.
UAA will host UMass Lowell Oct. 7-8.
