ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Anchorage rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but Broten Sabo scored a power-play goal in overtime to give the University of Alaska Fairbanks a 3-2 win in the first game of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Friday.
Brendan Ross and Matt Koethe scored at 5:15 and 14:36 of the first period to give the Nanooks a 2-0 lead.
The Seawolves battled back and got on the scoreboard after Conor Cole scored his first goal of the season with a slap shot from the left face-off circle at 1:07 of the second period. Dylan Finlay and Dimitry Kebreau collected their first assists of the season on the power-play goal.
Dylan Contreras tied the game at two just over five minutes later with a wrist shot for his first goal and point of his career.
The Seawolves were whistled for a face-off violation on the opening draw of overtime.
The Nanooks took advantage of the 4-on-3 powerplay with a goal by Broten Sabo, his third of the season, 62 seconds into overtime.
Both teams finished with 23 shots. UAA scored on its only powerplay of the evening, and UAF finished 1-for-2.
Greg Orosz made 20 saves for the Seawolves.
UAA and UAF will close out the weekend series Saturday at 5 pm.
