Seawolves score Saturday night win

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – Ryan Johnson, Max Helgeson and Dylan Contreras each scored for Alaska Anchorage in a 3-1 win at Merrimack Saturday.

With the win, the Seawolves earned a split of the weekend series with the Warriors.

The Seawolves started the second period with a 5-on-3 powerplay for two minutes. Ryan Johnson took advantage scoring his team-leading seventh goal of the game 33 seconds into the period. Karter McNarland and Conor Cole assisted on the goal.

The Seawolves were not able to capitalize on a five-minute major penalty but scored shortly after it expired. JP Steele sent a long shot on net that was knocked down in front of the net by Max Helgeson for his first goal of the season at 16:59.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard thanks to a little bit of luck. Colby Enns' shot deflected off a UAA defenseman and fell right to Tyler Young who tapped it in at 3:38 of the third period.

Dylan Contreras sealed the win for the Seawolves with an empty-net goal with 1:19 remaining.

UAA out-shot MC 36-32 and finished 1-for-5 on the powerplay. Merrimack was held scoreless on all three of their powerplay chances.

Greg Orosz made 31 saves on 32 shots in goal for UAA.

Alaska Anchorage will host Augustana Dec. 12-13.
