Hockey wins in overtime

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Aiden Westin scored the game-winner and Matt Johnson added three points to lift Alaska Anchorage to a 6-5 overtime win at Augustana Friday.

"What a great rink and environment tonight," said head coach Matt Shasby. "I thought the guys did a great job of riding the waves and finding a way in OT. Happy for (Joey) Lamoreaux to get a huge win."

Joey Lamoreaux finished with 22 saves in his first win of the season. He recorded an assist in the game, the second of his career.

Colton Friesen opened the scoring for the Vikings at 1:49 of the first period, but Matt Johnson responded with the first goal for the Seawolves just 30 seconds later on a break-away. The goal was the third of the season for Johnson, who has scored in each of the last three games for UAA.

The momentum stayed with the Seawolves who received goals from Connor Marritt and Matt Kinash at 6:30 and 16:40 of the first period.

Marritt poked in a loose puck for his sixth goal of the season, and Kinash fired a wrister top shelf for his second goal of the season.

Owen Bohn scored on the powerplay in the final minute of the first period to cut the UAA lead to 3-2 at the first intermission.

The Vikings scored their second power-play goal of the game at 14:12 of the second period, and Will Howard scored 38 seconds later to give the Vikings their second lead of the game 4-3.

The Seawolves regained the lead, 5-4, thanks to goals from Ben Almquist and Karter McNarland, but Ryan Naumovski tied the game with power-play goal, the third for the Vikings, at 18:06.

Aiden Westin scored the game-winner at 3:18 of overtime.

UAA had 10 players record a point in the win for the Seawolves, who have won six of their last seven games.

UAA finished with 42 shots, including 22 in the first period, and was 0-for-2 on the powerplay.

AU finished with 27 shots on goal.

Alaska Anchorage (12-15-2) and Augustana (11-17-3) will close out the weekend series Saturday.
