ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Porter Schachle and Matt Johnson each scored for Alaska Anchorage in a 5-2 loss to No. 19/20 Arizona State Saturday.
The Seawolves finish the season 15-16-2, its most wins in a season since 2013-14 when it finished 18-16-4.
Lukas Sillinger factored into all four first period goals for the Sun Devils. He scored a natural hat trick with goals at 1:10, 1:59 and 10:49.
Matthew Kopperud scored ASU's fourth goal on the powerplay off an assist from Sillinger with less than a minute remaining in the first.
Porter Schachle put the Seawolves on the scoreboard with his eighth goal of the season unassisted at 8:09 of the second period.
Aiden Westin found Matt Johnson on an odd-man rush for his sixth-goal of the season at 11:34. Johnson finishes the season with nine points (six goals, three assists) in his final eight games.
Riley Thompson tallied his 15th assist of the season on the goal. This season he led the team's freshmen and ranked third with 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists).
Benji Ecker scored an empty-net goal at 17:30 for the lone score of the final frame.
Both teams finished with 25 shots. ASU was 2-for-4 on the powerplay and UAA was 0-for-5.
"Very proud of our seniors who are moving on," said head coach Matt Shasby. "We tried to fight back from a tough start, but ASU played a great road game. Incredibly proud of all 30 guys in that room. 15 wins is a massive accomplishment, lots to build on."
UAA honored the seven seniors who concluded their college careers: Matt Allen (65 GP, 14-17—31), Ben Almquist (104 GP, 23-34—57), Matt Kinash (40 GP, 2-5—7), Carson Kosobud (70 GP, 2-13—15) Joey Lamoreaux (22 GP, 5-10-1, .876, 3.88), Max Osborne (30 GP, 0-5—5) and Adam Tisdale (134 GP, 15-24-39).
