UAA adds Sean Evans from transfer portal

ANCHORAGE (May 24) – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team has gained a key addition from the NCAA transfer portal as head coach Rusty Osborne announced Friday that Sean Evans will play his final season with the Seawolves.

A 6-3, 180-pound guard, Evans spent his first three collegiate seasons at fellow NCAA Div. II program Nebraska-Kearney, where he started 74 of 79 contests. The Parker, Colo., native posted career averages of 11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists with the Lopers, shooting .453 overall, .377 (147-390) on threes and .754 on free throws. He recorded his best season as a sophomore in 2022-23, producing 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, and MIAA top-10 shooting numbers of .489/.438/.810.

Among his top efforts, Evans delivered a career-high 26 points against Minnesota-Duluth, 19 points and 9 rebounds against Washburn, and a career-high 12 rebounds against Emporia State. He also displayed great durability, logging at least 37 minutes in 24 career games, including 40-plus on seven occasions.

"Sean Evans is a huge addition to our program," said Osborne. "He is a shooting guard with the ability to also play three positions, and should be one of the better players in our league. He is very strong, with a thick, athletic frame. Sean's numbers dipped this season after the UNK program had a tough year with their coach resigning after the third game. However, as a sophomore in one of the best D-II leagues in the country, he put up outstanding numbers across the board. We expect him to bounce back to his previous efficient form in our system. He and (signee) Zach Ibbetson, along with (redshirt freshman) Parker Kroon, really solidify that shooting guard position. Our staff is very excited to help Sean have a great senior season."

Prior to his collegiate career, Evans starred at Legend High School in the Denver area, earning 5A honorable mention all-state accolades as a senior, and second-team all-conference honors as a junior.

Evans becomes the sixth player in UAA's 2024 recruiting class, joining fellow transfers Alex Argandar (6-2, 175, G, Modesto, Calif./Modesto Christian HS/College of the Sequoias), Tyler Burraston (6-4, 190, G, Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon HS/Green River [Wash.] CC), Zach Ibbetson (6-3, 180, G, Norco, Calif./NHS/Santiago Canyon College), John McFadden (6-8, 220, F, San Juan Capistrano, Calif./San Juan Hills HS/Saddleback College), and Jesse Stines (6-6, 210, F, La Mirada, Calif./Corona HS/Irvine Valley College).
