Bromee scores second in slalom

GEORGETOWN, COLO. – Ella Bromee finished second for the second straight race after a runner-up finish in the slalom at the DU Invite Tuesday.

Ella Bromee posted the second-fastest first run and finished with a two-run combined time of 1:29.71.

Sara Rask of host DU won in a time of 1:29.43.

The Seawolves had two other women finish in the top-10 as they racked up 84.5 team points in the race, the most among any men's or women's team. Carmen Nielssen finished sixth (1:30.87), and Ainsley Proffit tied for 10th (1:31.41).

"Amazing day for the women," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "To come out and win the day as team is a huge accomplishment against such a strong field. Ella on the podium again, Carmen and Ainsley punching into the top ten, and Ashleigh showing some really good speed and progress with her slalom is super encouraging. Olivia was impressive today as well coming off of her injury last year. The guys continue to battle. Jan was in good position after first run, but conditions made it tough for guys running late in the flip. Carlo and Caeden skied well, but missed the flip 30 by two hundredths of a second. Just a stacked field and a gust of can be the difference between starting first second run or battling huge ruts after the top 30. We'll keep hammering. GS tomorrow. With the crap weather in Alaska we haven't been able to train GS at all ar home. Not even one day. No snow at any of our training venues. We'll see how it goes.

Ashleigh Alexander finished 16th (1:32.72), and Olivia Carrier was 27th (1:39.52).

Jan Ronner paced the UAA men with a 16th-place finish (1:33.11).

Caeden Carruthers was 23rd (1:36.60), and Hunter Eid was 27th (1:38.21).

Filip Wahlqvist of Colorado won the men's race (1:31.35).

UAA is currently fourth as a team with 124.5 points.
