SCOUTING REPORT: Picked eighth of 13 teams in the Pacific West Conference preseason poll, Westmont is playing its entire non-conference schedule against GNAC teams ... the Warriors, from Santa Barbara, Calif., earned their lone victory so far over Simon Fraser (83-64) on a neutral court ... EAGLES TAMED: The Seawolves fought off an upset bid Saturday with a 50-49 victory and earned a less dramatic 71-52 win Sunday over NAIA opponent Northwest University at the Alaska Airlines Center ... in the first game, Sr. F Bishop Tosi scored 15 points, including the game-winning layup with 9 seconds remaining, and Jr. F Sylas Williams secured his first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as UAA survived thanks to a 40-26 rebounding advantage ... Sr. G Hasaan Herrington added 9 points, 6 assists, 4 steals, no turnovers and 4 assists, including the game-winning dime to Tosi ... in the rematch, Williams scored 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-6 3FG) and Herrington had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists as UAA held the Eagles to .271 (13-48 FG) shooting and outboarded them 43-31 ... Tosi had 9 points, while Jr. G Jeremiah Coleman gave a spark off the bench with 8 points (2-3 3FG), 3 assists and a career-high 8 rebounds.
 
ALASKA/HAWAII CHAMPS: The Seawolves took the title of the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge, presented by Alaska Airlines, with a pair of home victories Nov. 15-16 over Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade ... on Saturday, Jr. Cole Johnson scored 15 points, including the game-clinching free throws with 24 seconds left, and dished 4 assists in a 70-65 win over HPU ... Sr. F Bishop Tosi had 14 points (4-6 FG, 6-7 FT), 5 rebounds and 3 assists, while Sr. G Akok Machar tallied 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and a UAA season-high 4 blocks ... on Sunday, tourney Most Outstanding Player Sylas Williams popped for 22 points (10-20 FG) and 8 rebounds, clinching a 57-53 win over Chaminade with a putback basket with 13 seconds left ... fellow all-tourney pick Hasaan Herrington went for 17 points (6-9 FG, 3-6 3FG, 2-2 FT), 5 assists, 3 steals and no turnovers, while Sr. F John McFadden had a key 6 points (3-5 FG), 7 rebounds and 2 steals in just 10 minutes off the bench.
 
TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves lead the early GNAC stats in blocks per game (4.9), scoring defense (63.6 ppg) and rebounding defense (30.0), and rank 2nd in FG% defense (.412), rebound margin (+5.8) and assists per game (17.4) ... after ranking 11th nationally in scoring defense last year, the Seawolves are off to a strong start at 19th nationally in 2025-26 ... UAA has earned .500-or-better records in 16 of the past 18 seasons, and 37 winning records in 47 seasons of NCAA Div. II existence ... the Seawolves have claimed winning conference records in 33 of 43 years belonging to a league ... UAA has 17 20-win seasons since becoming an NCAA Div. II program in 1977-78.
 
'WOLF BITES: Sr. F/C Bishop Tosi returns for his third year in Green & Gold as the Seawolves' representative on the Preseason All-GNAC Team ... an honorable mention all-league performer as a junior, the former Bartlett High star has already made a huge impact this season with game-winning baskets against both Chaminade and Northwest ... in the early GNAC stats, Tosi ranks 9th in offensive rebounding (2.1), 17th in assists (2.5), 13th in blocks (0.8), 8th in FT% (.853) and 2nd in FTs made (29) ... Sr. G/F Hasaan Herrington has blossomed into one of the GNAC's most well-rounded players over his three seasons at UAA, already improving his numbers to 10.1 ppg (.510 FG/.435 3FG), 4.3 rpg, 3.0 apg and 1.9 spg ... the former East High star has averaged 12.5 ppg in the four games against D-II foes, including a 17-point (6-9 FG) effort to boost the win over Chaminade ... in the GNAC stats, Herrington is currently 12th in assists, 2nd in A/T ratio (4.0), 9th in steals and 10th in 3FG% ... a transfer from fellow D-II program Texas-Tyler, Sr. G Akok 'Cookie' Machar has emerged as another all-around threat, scoring double figures five times ... originally from South Sudan and raised in Adelaide, Australia, Machar leads the GNAC with 18-of-18 FT shooting and ranks top 10 in blocks (4th, 1.3) and steals (8th, 1.9) ... Jr. F Sylas Williams returned to the lineup after a 3.5-game injury absence to claim Most Outstanding Player honors in the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge, and has emerged as the team's leading scorer (13.0 ppg) and rebounder (6.0 rpg) ... the 2024-25 NWAC Player of the Year at Skagit Valley (Wash.) College, Williams has made multiple three-pointers in four of his first five games ... along with a double-double against Northwest and a 22-point, 8-rebound effort against Chaminade, Williams holds GNAC ranks of 17th in scoring and 11th in rebounding ... Jr. G Cole Johnson ranks 6th in the GNAC with 3.9 assists per game, while Jr. G Jeremiah Coleman is 15th in steals (1.3).
 
TRUST IN RUSTY: In his 21st season (22nd year) at the helm, head coach Rusty Osborne (367-236) has led the Seawolves to six NCAA Tournament bids, including advancement to the 2008 NCAA Div. II Semifinals, and 16 records of .500-or-better in the last 18 seasons … the longest tenured coach in program history and in the GNAC, he became the first UAA coach in any sport to reach 300 career victories when the Seawolves beat Hawaii Pacific on Nov. 13, 2021 … Osborne captured GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths (2006-08), and in 2011-12 his Seawolves posted a 24-10 record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne's 2007-08 club holds that record with a 29-6 mark … before taking over the head job in 2004-05, the Texas native previously served 13 seasons (1991-04) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant … the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament ... Osborne is assisted by Ashton Pomrehn (1st season) and Ryan Engebretsen (5th season/6th year).
