ANCHORAGE (Feb. 1) – Freshman forward
Ashlyn Rean led six Alaska Anchorage players in double figures with 15 points Saturday, helping the hosts to an 86-47 women's basketball victory over Northwest Nazarene at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (19-3, 10-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting from junior guard
Elaina Mack as they shot their best percentage (35 of 62, .565) against an NCAA Div. II opponent since Mar. 7, 2020.
The Nighthawks (13-7, 7-4) were led by 11 points from reserve guard Shawnacee Davis as the visitors from Nampa, Idaho, were outrebounded 35-22 and committed 31 turnovers.
"We had terrific execution on both ends of the court," said UAA head coach
Ryan McCarthy, an NNU graduate who collected his 300th victory with the Seawolves. "Our team is starting to display more maturity and poise as the season progresses, and we hope to keep building on that as we head into the stretch this month."
Aiming for a second straight regular-season sweep of the Nighthawks, the Seawolves earned a 9-0 lead over the first four minutes and never trailed. NNU sliced its deficit to 14-11 with two minutes left in the opening quarter, but managed just two field goals over the next 11 minutes to trail 38-19 at halftime.
The Seawolves began the second half with an 8-0 run on baskets from four different players, and pushed the lead to 63-33 after three quarters.
Rean – a GNAC Freshman of the Year candidate from New Zealand – shot 7 of 9 from the floor, along with five rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block.

Tori Hollingshead and
Hedda Koehne tallied 10 points apiece, with Hollingshead adding three blocks and three steals in her return from a two-game injury absence.
Senior forward
Jaisa Gamble had 12 points (4-6 FG, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds and three assists, while senior guard
Ja'Niah Alexander added a career-high-tying five assists, no turnovers, two steals and the first two blocks of her career.
Senior point guard
Emilia Long had seven points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals, and junior forward
Kenzie Sirowich had six points on 2-of-3 shooting.
UAA heads into its final seven regular-season contests with a 1.5-game advantage over Montana State Billings (19-4, 8-2) in the GNAC standings.
