Seawolves stuff Saints in season finale, 69-48

LACEY, Wash. (Mar. 1) – Junior guard Tyler Burraston scored a career-high 26 points and the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team used a season-best defensive effort Saturday to earn a 69-48 victory over Saint Martin's in 2024-25 finale at Marcus Pavilion.

The Seawolves (11-19, 5-13 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 12 points, four rebounds and four assists from junior Hasaan Herrington as they outshot the hosts .491 to .354 from the field and outscored them 36-3 from the three-point line.

The Saints (19-12, 8-10) were led by 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting from starting forward Diego Trejo-Delgado and nine points from Jayshawn Moore, but the rest of the hosts connected on just four of 26 shots (0 of 6 3FG).

The 48 points were the fewest UAA allowed to an NCAA Div. II opponent all season, and 10 points fewer than their best in a GNAC game.

"I'm very proud of how this team continued to fight despite the adversity we faced," said UAA head coach Rusty Osborne, whose team lost all-conference candidate Sean Evans to injury midway through the league season, and recently learned that junior Malik Jackson has been hospitalized with Leukemia. "They showed up every game and never 'mailed in' the season. We got good defensive and offensive performances up and down the lineup tonight, and I'm happy for Luke Devine and Dillon Barrientos to experience a win in their last game."

Meeting 85 days after Saint Martin's took the GNAC opener 79-74 on Dec. 5 in Anchorage, both teams got off to fast offensive starts. Herrington gave UAA an early lead that it would never relinquish with a three-pointer to make it 10-7, and the Seawolves stretched it to 24-16 when Sloan Lentfer scored down low and followed with an assist on another Herrington trey.

Lentfer, Bishop Tosi and Devine combined for three straight field goals to push the run to 11-0 over a five-minute stretch, giving the Seawolves a double-digit lead for the game's final 30 minutes.

That would not be the largest run, however, as the Seawolves held the Saints scoreless over the last seven minutes of the half, capping a 48-22 halftime advantage with three consecutive threes by Burraston.

UAA led by at least 20 points throughout the second half as Burraston finished 7 of 14 from long range and made both of his two-point tries. The Utah native added five rebounds as he established a new career scoring high for the second time in three games and finished No. 4 on UAA's single-season list with 104 treys.

Tosi had 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and four assists, while Barrientos concluded his two-year Seawolf career with 10 points (2-4 3FG), five rebounds, three assists, three steals and no turnovers.

Junior forward Jesse Stines led UAA with six rebounds.

"It was not the season we expected, but in many ways it was rewarding," added Osborne, who concluded his 20th year at the helm with win No. 361. "These are terrific young men who battled adversity from the first week of the school year. They lost a teammate to a terrible disease but never gave in. I know this experience will serve us well in the future both on and off the court."
