HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Alaska Anchorage had three skiers earn All-American honors in the slalom on the opening day of competition at the NCAA Skiing National Championships in New Hampshire.
Ella Bromee posted the top finish of the day for the Seawolves finishing sixth in 1:33.85.
Carmen Nielssen finished 10th in 1:33.92.
Jan Ronner, the lone Seawolf in the men's race, finished ninth in 1:28.66.
The trio each earned All-American honors.
Ainsley Proffit finished 18th in 1:35.51.
"Solid start to the championship week," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "Three All American performances with everyone moving up in a very talented field. Ella had an outstanding day with two very solid runs. Carmen skied lights out first run and was so close to being right behind Ella. Just a few hundredths of a second was the difference. That's indicative of just how competitive these national championship races can be. Today that reality was amplified for sure. Ainsley put two great runs together as well to move up with a great result to help the team. On the men's side, Jan really battled. He's been skiing great all year and today really stepped up when it counted most. Sitting in 18th after the first run, he took some calculated risks, skied with wild poise, and fended off 25 of the best male skiers in the country to climb into an All-American ninth place. We'll pass the baton to our Nordic group tomorrow and prepare for the giant slalom on Friday."
UAA is currently sixth in the team standings with 83 points.
Sara Rask of Denver won the women's race in 1:33.25, and Jayden Buckrell of New Hampshire won the men's race in 1:27.77.
The NCAA Skiing National Championships continue Thursday with the 7.5-kilometer classic race.
