Seawolves claim No. 4 seed, face Billings in LA

INDIANAPOLIS (Mar. 9) – Having already locked up its league's automatic bid, the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team learned its postseason destination and first-round opponent Sunday night, claiming the No. 4 seed for the NCAA Div. II West Regional Championships.

Ranked 20th in both national polls, the Seawolves (27-4) will face No. 5 seed and Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival Montana State Billings (25-7) on Friday at the Torodome in Carson, Calif.

The winner of the UAA/MSUB game will play No. 1 Cal State Dominguez Hills (31-1) or No. 8 Azusa Pacific (22-6) in Saturday's semifinal round. The other side of the bracket features No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona (25-5) against No. 7 Chico State (23-7) and No. 3 Point Loma (25-5) against No. 6 Central Washington (21-7) in the opening round.

Monday's title game will determine the West Region champion, who advances to the NCAA Div. II Elite Eight in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mar. 24-28.

This marks UAA's 21st NCAA Tournament qualification overall and 15th in the last 18 non-pandemic seasons. The Seawolves won West Region titles in 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016, advancing all the way to the national title game in 2016.
